Representatives of Waste Management Sector in the Baltic Region to Work Together in the Future


The representatives of waste managers from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia met in Riga these days, at an international conference. The conference was also attended by the representative of the European Federation of Waste Management. Waste professionals of the Baltic region agreed on cooperation for representing the interests of the new member states at the institutions of the European Union.

The initiator of the conference, Latvian Association of Waste Management Companies (LASUA), stresses that such working meetings will be regular among the Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian associations of the sector in the future. Operation of the Baltic sector’s council with its center in Riga will be renewed at a new quality in the nearest future, which will provide continuous information exchange and coordination of activities in the Baltic States.

The Board Chairman of LASUA Janis Vilgerts emphasizes that uniting the forces of representatives of the waste management sectors of the Baltic States will provide for that the customers of the sector’s companies will not have to overpay for the services. It has also been planned to facilitate public awareness in the matters of responsible waste management.

LASUA also gave in an application for admittance of the Latvian organization of the sector’s representatives with the European Federation of Waste Management. This will allow more effective solution of issues important for our country in the Framework Waste Directive which lies at the basis of waste management policy of every European Union member state and has a direct impact on every resident of the country.

LASUA board meeting


On 7th of November LASUA's board meeting will take place in Riga. The report from FEAD's annual conference in Athens where LASUA participated will be presented by the management as well as a vote on LASUA's official participation in this organization is expected be held. Other actual questions of LASUA work will be discussed as well.


LASUA participates in FEAD Conference


The LASUA management is participating in the annual FEAD (European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services) conference this year held in the capital of Greece, Athens. Top European Union politicians and member state delegations being the conference participants, it is planned to discuss the amendments to the Framework Directive for Waste which is the basis of the national waste management policies in every EU member state.

It is planned that at the end of the year the European Parliament could launch the second reading of this directive, debating on the directive aspects with the member states. The draft directive is then forwarded to the EU member states.

It is expected that the work at the new directive is completed in the middle of the next year and it will take effect as a law in all EU member states.

At the FEAD Conference, the administration of LASUA will become acquainted with the waste management experience of other EU member states.

A New Logo and Homepage for LASUA


Collaborating with the marketing idea agency IDEA GRATA, a new logo and corporate identity materials, and also a new homepage were developed for LASUA. The new LASUA style is logical and clear, stressing the principal values of the Association: professional approach, latest technologies and care for clean environment.
